Why Choose #Distance_Learning?

Why Choose #Distance_Learning?

The main advantage of #distance_learning is that it allows you to fit your #learning around your work and home life.

You can usually also set your own pace of study.
It is your decision as to when and where you study.
It doesn't matter where you live – you can gain a #degree from anywhere in the world.
As with a full-time #degree, #students may find that they gainuseful, transferable skills, such as planning and research.
A #distance_learning course often costs less than a full-time #degree.
The downside is that you will not enjoy the conviviality of being on a campus and rubbing shoulders with fellow students on a daily basis.

Loneliness and feelings of isolation should be avoided however by frequent online contact with tutors and taking part in virtual forums, virtual help groups and discussion rooms.
#Distance_learning providers usually offer dedicated support to their online or #distance_learning students.
Accreditation

You can study #undergraduate and #postgraduate level courses via #distance_learning.
#Universities and #colleges ensure that their #distance_learning#programmes and #qualifications are of the same high quality as campus-based #programmes.

'#Technical #education possible in #distance mode'

'#Technical #education possible in #distance mode'

#Distance_education could be used as a medium to deliver#courses in #technical #education, provided norms are in place to regulate the standard of #education so provided, said professor N R Madhava Menon, founder vice-chancellor of National Law School of India #University, Bangalore and the National #University of Juridicial Sciences , Kolkata.

He was delivering a lecture on "#Education for responsible citizenship" at the Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development at Sriperumbudur on Friday. As chairman of a seven-member committee appointed by the ministry of human resource development, professor Menon recently submitted a report suggesting measures to regulate education being imparted through the #distance mode.

He said that #distance_education, if properly organized, could double or even triple enrollment in higher education, professor Menon added that there would be several private players in such a scenario.

Soon, study #MBA and #engineering in #distance mode

Soon, study #MBA and #engineering in #distance mode

In the not-too-distant future, you could become an #engineer or earn an #MBA sitting at home.

The All India Council for Technical Education (#AICTE), the apex body for #professional #courses, will allow #colleges to offer #engineering and #MBA via #distance mode, overturning the tough stand it has maintained for years. The council had earlier stated that #professional #courses like #engineering required intensive practical #training and #programmes such as an #MBA ought to have several hours of #classroom discussions and debates as business had several tones of grey that an aspiring manager must understand.

The #AICTE's change of heart will not only augment the number of #professionals in India, but will also prove to be a game-changer as the fees will be a lot lesser than what students pay to attend college. But every candidate will have to sit for an exit or a licentiate #examination, termed as the National Eligibility Test, at the end of the course before she or he is declared an engineer or the #MBA or #MCA degree is awarded.

A student should have completed a #degree or a #diploma in the #classroom mode and attained a minimum of five years of work#experience before they can take up a #professional #course via the distance learning mode.

"This will be a mixed mode of education—while practical training will take place face-to-face, theory can be conducted using ICT," AICTE chairman S S Mantha said.

The decision was taken on the recommendation of a committee headed by former IIT-Kanpur director Sanjay Dhande and IIT-Kanpur chairman M Anandkrishnan who studied the possibility of offering engineering and other professional courses through the distance mode. As Mantha explained, all professional courses except architecture and pharmacy can be conducted virtually. But a student or a class XII pass-out seeking his/her first diploma or degree cannot sign up for a BTech under this scheme.

"Essentially, there will be an entrance test and an exit exam that all students signing up for a course under the distance education mode will have to take. We have to preserve the quality of students at both the stages," Mantha added. The AICTE is currently drawing up rules and the approval process for colleges wanting to offer courses though the virtual medium. Interested colleges can apply from March 1.

Distance education:
Currently, 14 open universities and 172 other institutions offer courses in higher education via the distance mode to about 40 lakh students. Distance education courses are regulated by the Distance Education Council (DEC), a body that operates under IGNOU.

Distance education is largely confined to general streams. Some universities like IGNOU offer technical courses like an MCA but tie-up with colleges so that students can use their laboratories for practical training.

There was a tripartite committee comprising the UGC, DEC and AICTE which used to examine applications from institutes interested in offering courses via distance education, but the committee was almost defunct as the AICTE maintained that professional courses could not be imparted virtually.

CEO Uppaluri further said "#India Inc should invest in ensuring there is a right #job - #candidate fit and have robust #training #programmes to drive employee performance. Such measures will help companies remain attractive for the workforce in the long term." Here are some highlights of the report. #UGC to Regulate #Degree Offering #B_Schools, While #AICTEto Control #Diploma

#UGC to Regulate #Degree Offering #B_Schools, While #AICTEto Control #Diploma
Now, the #University_Grant_Commission (#UGC) will regulate all those #Management and #Business_schools of #India that offer a#master’s #degree in #management and are affiliated to#universities, whereas, #All_Indian_Council_for_Technical_Education (#AICTE) is to control #autonomous/independent #B_schools which offer a #post_graduate_diploma_in_management (#PGDM).
The Union Ministry of #Human_Resource_Development (#MHRD) stood up to sort the dispute which started to take place between the two apex #higher_education regulatory bodies – #UGC & #AICTE.
In April 2013, #AICTE was not questioned by the#Supreme_Court while making #judgment for its control over #autonomous #B_Schools.
Earlier the UGC was entrusted with the charge to regulate all B-Schools of India, but when it did not work, MHRD took a decision of AICTE to regulate independent B-schools, as informed a senior MHRD official.
MHRD, in the meantime was already looking for ways to restore the power of AICTE in some form after the SC scrapped AICTE’s power in April 2013. The MHRD had also planned few measures, including an ordinance for the same.
The new decision taken together by UGC and MHRD shall bring relief to independent B-schools.

#UGC approves new #regulations for #higher_education

#UGC approves new #regulations for #higher_education
The #University_Grants_Commission is understood to have passed two important #regulations related to#technical_education and #distance_education.
At a meeting of the commission on Friday, the board members have passed the regulation as a result of which technical colleges will now be regulated by the #universities.
Under the new #regulation, the #universities have been empowered to grant #recognition and #approval to the colleges offering #engineering programmes leading to an award of a degree.
According to sources, the #universities have to establish their own mechanism for screening of proposal and inspection of#institution prior to #granting the #approval.
However, sources said that the institutes offering diploma in#management programme will continue to be regulated as per the existing practice.
The #commission is also understood to have #approved the regulation for #distance_education under which the universities offering the #distance_education programme will have to seek approval of #UGC for programmes leading to the awarding of a degree.
However, stand-alone #institutions are likely to be not covered by the #regulation.

How Does #Distance_Education Work?

How Does #Distance_Education Work?
#Distance_education is different from conventional #classroom-based education in that it allows you as a #student to complete#courses and #programs without attending scheduled group#classes in a central location, such as a #university campus. As an #WSM #distance_education student, you can
work from anywhere, such as your home or workplace
work at your own pace, on a schedule that suits your individual needs
register for a single course or enroll in an undergraduate or graduate degree, diploma or certificate program

Advantages & Disadvantages of #DistanceLearning

Advantages & Disadvantages of #DistanceLearning
Although sometimes considered to be the poorer cousin of regular college programmes, #distancelearning comes as a blessing to students who want to study further while continuing with jobs orwho might not be able to attend a full-time course for various reasons.
The most frequent query from students is related to the confusion over the value of a #distancelearning programme. The answer to this totally depends on the student. Some students can make the most out of a distance learning programme, but there are also others who are not comfortable with this pattern. Here we will discuss the pros and cons of #distancelearning/#distanceeducation programmes and help you decide if you should go for it:
Disadvantages of Studying through #DistanceLearning:
1.No Direct Contact with faculty: There isn’t any fun if you don’t have a teacher you can make fun of! On a serious note, lack of personal interaction with teachers often affects the learning curve for some students. This is one major disadvantage of #distancelearning. Flipping through voluminous books with no mentor to guide you can be overwhelming for some students.
2.Over dependence on Technology: Some #distancelearning programmes especially online courses require access to internet. Unless you are comfortable with this medium, you will find studying and interacting with your faculty online difficult.
3.Lack of Discipline: Since you don’t have a teacher standing on top of your head, reminding you of deadlines, asking for your#assignments, there are chances that you will not take a #distancelearning programme seriously. You need to be mature and disciplined to take full advantage of a #distancelearning programme.
4.It can get Lonely: Even if you’re in a #virtualclassroom that is full of students, the lack of personal interaction might make you feel detached and lonely. This can be solved as you get more comfortable with using the internet.
5.Not All #Courses are Available/ Taught: Another major#disadvantage_of_distance_learning is that not all courses can be taught online. For example, subjects like #Medicine and#Engineering can’t be taught online or through #distancelearning since practical classes, experiments etc. can’t possibly be conducted over the internet! Some things, you’ve got to do yourself!
6.Not Valued by all Employers: No matter how good the#university/#college from where you pursued your #distancelearning programme, some employers will always prefer a candidate who has pursued a #regular_programme over you.
Advantages of Studying through #DistanceLearning:
1.It's #Flexible: You can earn and study at the same time! Flexibility is the biggest #advantage_of_distance_learningcourses. This stands true especially if you are a working professional. Not everyone has the luxury of taking their own time to finish their studies. For those who had to take a break from studies to start working, such courses are a boon and provide the#opportunity to pursue #higher_education.
2.Saves Time & Energy: You save up a lot of time and energy on commuting. You can stay in Pune and pursue a course that is available in Bangalore. Or you might be based out of a remote village or town which does not have enough options for#higher_studies. #Distancelearning courses eliminate these obstacles.
3.Study at your own Pace: Not everyone has the same pace of learning. Some students pick up things fast, others need time to grasp a concept. One of the biggest#advantages_of_distance_learning is that you can study at a pace that is comfortable for you.
4. Saves Money: These courses are almost always #cheaper as compared to their on-campus counter-parts. You also cut down on the costs incurred while commuting etc.
5.Convenient: You can submit your assignment with the click of a button or simply drop it off at a post-office! It’s sometimes as simple as that!
6. 24X7 Access to #Study_Material & fellow Students: This is the best way to study if you are comfortable with internet and technology. You can access your study material online whenever you want and also clear doubts, exchange views and discuss with your virtual class-mates!
7.Study any Topic You Want: Since you‘d already have all your books/#online_study_material with you, you can pick up any topic/chapter that interests you and tackle that first! This way your interest in the subject is sustained.
Various studies have shown that #distance_learning_programmes can be as efficient and valuable as regular classroom programmes sometimes even better! Sometimes the #learning_material for #distance_learning_programmes by certain universities {eg: Karnataka State Open University(#KSOU)} can be way superior to that of a regular classroom course. So as a student, you need to decide if #distance_learning_programme suits your personality and temperament!
In a country like India, where a basic graduation degree is mandatory to get a decent job, where the number of aspiring students outnumber the number of college seats available by an obscenely high number, #distance_learning_programmes is the choice of many.

Indian education system vs foreign education system......

These opportunities are not available with the Indian Education System.

Foreign Education leads to internationally recognized qualifications, meaning students can look forward to good career prospects when they return home.

It offers a wealth of educational possibilities, so that students can choose a course to meet their career and learning needs.

Foreign Education offers a more personalized and independent approach to help students develop intellectual skills needed for the global market.

Foreign Education broadens the view and develops skills for the global economy.........
